THE BARAT PERHENTIAN RESORT
June 2024
The Barat Perhentian is a resort on the western side of Pulau Perhentian Besar. There is a choice of includes rooms, dormitory and chalet type accommodation. There are seaview and seafront rooms available. While the Barat has direct sea front access, it is not set against a sandy beach type frontage because the front is largely embanked to accommodate the resort’s restaurant, cafe and reception area.
The family chalets are not large but can accommodate 2 adults and a child comfortably. It is close to the beach while the smaller chalets are a farther walk away. Our chalet was reasonably clean with decent bathroom and shower facility.
Due to the nature of the seafront, there’s probably not much difference between the Seafront Family Chalet and the Standard Family Chalet. Most of the Standard Family Chalets are just as easily accessible from the limited beach front. More conveniently, there aren’t any steps to access the Standard Family Chalets which make these a better choice for elderly or less mobile people.
While staying there, we noticed there were some monkeys on the balcony of the upper seaview rooms. So do beware if you are booking these rooms.
Further up from the Barat are The Reef Resort which looks like a slightly more budget “kampung style” setup, while next to The Reef is Coral Island Resort which offers slightly more upmarket accommodation.
Walking down south, there is Mama’s Chalet which also offers seafront chalets but once again without sandy beach frontage. From Mama’s Chalet, there is a trail which leads towards the stretch housing Tuna Beach Resort, Abdul Chalet etc. If you are looking to snorkel right in front of your resort, then these are probably a better choice compared to the Barat.
Other than hotel restaurant, there any food stalls near the Barat. So you will need to budget at least RM25 to RM50 per meal per person if you are not on a package. Mama’s Chalet and Coral View Island Resort also house their own restaurant, so these are your main F&B options when staying at the Barat.
